In terms of performance for gaming, Viiv™ shouldn't make a difference. It mainly has advantages with the ability to process digital media (another step by Intel to get PC's into the living room):-

Intel® Viiv™ technology-based entertainment PCs enable users to have one integrated system for all their media. With optional TV tuner card, users can record, pause, and rewind live TV programmes, and store them on the hard drive for later viewing.
Through internet connectivity users can easily access online entertainment services, enabling movie and music downloads, as well as access to the latest games.
Entertainment PCs, available in models as sleek as a DVD-player and in traditional form, are scheduled to be available in the first quarter of 2006. Intel® Viiv™ technology is where your media collide.

ViiV is only a marketing name for the "Intel Multimedia Experience"

The two processors are identical. It is just that the one branded Viiv will be found in a multimedia-oriented system.

This Wikipedia link explains what Viiv is:

And you can read this article for a less-than-flattering commentary about Viiv:

To sum it up, Viiv is only a name given to a set of components.

I'd go for the E6600 Core 2 Duo, for about US$60-70, the bump in speed and 4mb cache gives it better value , you'd still need to factor in graphics, ram and mobo tho

Lost in my own perverted thoughts...
