Stargate universe (Links in side) -
10-29-2009, 12:40 AM
I've been watiching the stargate franchise for like what... 3 years now.
I watched all the series SG-1, atlantis and the movies
and now it's up to Stargate universe (SGU) and frankly i'm kinda disappointed.
I realy miss the old sarcastic humor like in SG-1 and atlantis.
Now in SGU it's all drama and no humor at all and the story isn't that great either
it's more like a Startrek rip off ( lost in space and stuff )
But anyway whats your opion of Stargate universe ?

Reason: Episode update
Its like a watered down version of Battlestar Galactica: rag tag crew stuck in space with this big ship; running low on supplies; kinda gritty but not really; similar camera style; bit more flesh, but not really; possibly untrustworthy scientist played by a Brit; lots of flashbacks; sometimes very similar music.
Its more drama based than old Stargate but unoriginal and bland - its neither an adventure of the week fun show or a serious character driven show. I don't know how they can pull off a SciFi show that can appeal to the BSG/Wire/Deadwood crowd and the existing huge Stargate crowd.
I'm a big fan of Stargate, watching a rerun as I type this. But so far, not to thrilled with Universe. Basically the only connection is, there is a gate. It's not a bad show, just pales in comparison to the other 2. Have to see if it develops. A Guy
I have been a big fan of the good old Stargate series and movies. But I allrdy didnt watch that Atlantis crap anymore because it just wasnt Stargate for me anymore..
yeah, i was disappointed when SG-1 got cancelled and then Atlantis.
The first episode of Universe was not bad, a different approach to the sg universe, but unlike the other series, there has yet to be a distinguishable enemy from the get-go. It seems more survivor style lost in space type shit. I've seen 3 episodes and it's moving really slow, with the character development and history and all, but it's entertaining. Maybe cause I love stargate and i'll watch it.
I hope they eventually find out who attacked that outpost, then maybe we'll get a nemesis going.
let's make everybody sing
that they are the beginning and ending of everything
and we are stronger
than everything they taught us that we should fear
well about Atlantis, there is gonna be a last movie like SG-1's final movie continuum
and I'm looking forward to it. But about SGU, the thing is, in SG-1 and Atlantis the story
mainly focused on one team and maybe 2 or 3 other main characters.
But in SGU the story focus about a hole shit load of people and that realy f*cks up the hole stargate thing
@Blue-Falcon I never realized that the sarcastic humour was missing but you are right. Except that part with General O'Neal in the first episode when the said "we'll beam you to our space ship."
Still the show is different, and I am guessing different is what they were going for. I am looking forward to tonight's episode.
I'm a newbie to Stargate franchise although I did see the original movie way back when. So starting with Stargate Universe isn't as bad for me as I am not comparing it to the others. So I will keep watching and then check out the older ones later.
I just saw episode 6 of SGU and to my surprise,
I finnaly saw some more of the humor that I was missing,
and it makes me al lot happier to know that it's still in there (some where).
