Arrow A suggestion... - 07-16-2007, 07:38 PM

Hi,
I'd like to propose a suggestion to the mods and like to get comments from fellow members. I am still quite new here but have had great response to my lil contribution. However, today I was a little disappointed with my yesterdays post. Not because of the members but because the passes went dead pretty quickly.

A lil investigation revealed this on one of the sites "You will get an email with a new password if my new security system detects a compromised login. If you have any problems logging on, you can request a new password online with my shiny new Customer Support Page".

Hmmm... well in my opinion there is just no use of posting l:p of such sites which will ban the pass within 5 min.'s, with a common proxy it might extend but thats rarely the case. After all we want the posted passes to be enjoyed by the members of this forum.

So here's my suggestion. Make a section in the Password section as Give Away. The cracker can post a thread saying he has 'x' no. of passes for 'y' site. Those interested can reply to that thread and the cracker can PM them the pass. So for sites that kill the pass quickly the cracker has an option.

This might hopefully be a more productive usage of the cracked pass. Inputs and modifications to the suggestion are welcomed.

Regards,
Finder

Hey fkeep, first of all thx for the posts you make here. Second you should probably be promoted to Silver by now. Passes last longer in there.

I understand it is frustrating to c passes die so fast. One answer to your thread would be to crack more of the sites that are being requested. That way the pass will live to c the member who really wants it. Also, if you hack sites you like first, check afterwards if it has been requested. But maybe you already did that.
As for your method, I'm afraid it will be quite messy with many pm's also after you already closed the thread, "oh plz plz you still have 1 4 me? pleeeeaeeaaze?" If you get my point. You may be willing to go through the hassle, but I can understand many hackers won't…

Hopes that helps a bit. Take care.

When a thread is closed, doesn't that stop people from posting to it? And the rules are not to PM request right? But If one's willing to do that, sounds logical. But what do I know? I don't make the rules.

Well, let me state clearly that, indeed, PM request are VERY FORBIDDEN as it is now. I was explaining fkeep that his suggestion would likely become messy and it would also become messy because most of us don't want pm requests for password, that's why the rule is there.
And of closing posts, well, right now they don't get closed (unless there's foul play involved), so that would also become an issue, like would you close them if the passes are all given away?

It's just probably not so good an idea, but I thought I'd reply to fkeep anyway since he took the time to crack passes, post them and start this thread for some feedback.

I understand your concerns Arizona, really. And If I ever figure out how to crack passwords I wouldn't want people to PM me either. However, I still think he's got a good point. As Robot and Minerva are asking for suggestions, why not add a stipulation to the PM rule, maybe in red letters or something, warning them not to request passwords through PM except on those particular threads aproved by the posters and the stipulation allowing for it. And when thread starters want to closed their threads, they could have the option to do so somehow. Perhaps a bot could clean them up. Does it make sense? I don't know! Just a thought. Either way, thank you to all you posters; hope to be one myself some day.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I think it's a very good idea from fkeep...

It will prevent leechers from copying and pasting the whole passes elsewhere, and also prevent people from clicking the link out of curiousity...

I'd really like to know what tho Mods and Admin think about this...

Thanx.

It's a fine idea, but very difficult to moderate.

Example of what could go wrong:
I'm a leecher and just got a load of passes off of xxxpornpasswerdz.com
I put a post in this Give Away section saying I have 5x sexysonia 15x bingbros 10x realityqueeens.
I then try to hand out leeched passes which will die probably before I get to send them.
Users complain of being cheated with no evidence for us to look at that the passes were leeched in the first place
Just lots of unhappy people wasting their time with expired passes.

I DO like the general idea but it needs to work on all levels

I'm open to hear any other suggestions that stops Kenk the leecher from causing problems

I think its a good idea and I have seen examples of this in other forums and it works well. Leechers cant view the passes unless they post thanks!

hey Nokia - I'm not worried about people getting passes from the posts - I'm more concerned with "crackers" who leech the passes and hand them out to members as their own.
Present system with a variety of checks I can normally tell if they are leeched - this method I cannot tell where the passes came from.

The hide hack is what you seem to be talking about which yes can work well, but you still get lots of "thx in advance" type messages

Kenk, how about if the poster have to PM the passes to the Mods before starting the thread?

Nokia, I never really like that hide hack, to be honest... It just encourages people to spam, imo...

I've seen a different kind of hide hack on phpBB forums (or was it SMF? I forgot) which is based on reputation system (e.g. You need to have xx Rep. points to see the hidden content)...
If the purpose of the hide hack is to minimize the number of lurker/leecher that can see the post, then it's definitely far superior to the [hide=reply] hide hack...
but then again... I don't know if there's such mod in vBulletin and we don't have a Rep. system at the moment...
