How about a thanks button? - 07-05-2009, 03:40 AM

Why not add a thanks button? A lot of different forums use them. A poster can just hit the thanks button instead of resurrecting old threads.

Because we want people to make at least a bit of an effort in showing their gratitude instead of just hitting a button.

Agree, imo thank the provider in public when you catch them in chat and send them a pm also., already in the playbook at this forum.

Personally, I like to write a few words to tell someone how much I appreciate what they shared.
I would not use a thanks button.

Problem with a thanks button will be how it will give those who already dont participate an even lazier way to stop participation. Although i have seen many forums successfully use a thanks button, none have so readily relied on member participation as here. One place i was at 1 member got over 2000 thanks, but only 3 posts to say it. I just dont feel that is fair, if you liked something, You should at least leave a little message saying so.

Just my 2 pence

If you have something to say, a post of thanks is great. If you just want to say "thanks", a button is more useful and keeps threads cleaner. why not have both possibilities?

I don't think it would make any difference ... the habitual leechers, who unfortunately seem to form the majority, would probably take great delight in ignoring both options ...

SS Forum has always prided itself to have members that take the time to give comments and thanks. Thank you buttons are not something you will ever see here. But thank you for the suggestion. We always like to get input from our members, whether we agree or not.
