I would LOVE to learn how to crack passes.

I've seen a ton of posts with cracked passes and more times than not - these posts doesn't get the credit that they deserve.

Interesting thread.

This is my first trip back to SSF since last June. I quit cracking, and really even any related activity because Law School, work and family took priority.

Last summer, I took a class on Law and the Internet. That really opened my eyes. Fortunately, most internet related crimes are difficult to locate and always come along with jurisdictional problems, making them even harder to prosecute.

But you are correct that this can be risky, which is why you really should pay attention to the advice about anonymous proxies and other precautions.

Good to be back, though!

Yep - it all comes down to how much BS you are willing to tolerate for your art. I've had a couple ISPs who wanted to 'monitor' what I was up to. These days most ISP usage agreements prohibit everything down to the level of 'I promise not to fart in case it might stink...'

That and the psychoses displayed by the BUllSHit administration just took the fun out of it for me. Hell no, don'tsend me to gitmo!

one of the reasons to quit porn and cracking porn is if your girlfriend broke up with you....
even though it has nothing to do with porn, u have to quit because porn will just depress u further in the long run...
gotta quit and hit the clubs again...

Great subject. IMO, people are naturally curious and seek adventure and desire to broaden their computer skills and knowledge, and cracking offers them that excitement and challenge. I look at the web as an am/fm radio. If the station is on and I am capable of receiving your frequency, then I own it. The same holds true for the web. If you leave your website unprotected because you just finished basic pc 101 or you are just plain ignorant to web security, we own you. There are 3 categories of hacks I'd like to share. The black cap hackers. They're the ones who made the flashing x-rated images on innocent children and family websites. They're the ones who write spyware and viruses. They're the ones who steal information, banking, credit reports, credit card numbers and steal personal identities. The reasons they do these things could be most anything. For amusement the challenge, to make a statement, to be self proclaimed powerful and artistic. Some black caps are even hired. And their actions can range from stealing critical information from a company or the government, to sabotaging networks, banking infrastructures and connections, to implanting fabricated evidence. They could be hired by individuals, companies, or even another government. In short, the black caps are the ones who do harm deliberately. Either for their own gain, be it monetary or personal enjoyment and extreme excitement.
White caps are, essentially, the opposite. They write the programs that catch viruses and spyware. They write the codes for firewalls, that protects back doors. They're the ones your parlament/government/kingdom hires to help protect their information and system connections. However, they sometimes seem like black caps. For instance, a lone white cap may hack a site like xxx/members.com/. Make it clear that it was hacked, brag about it and they will usually, however, leave a clue as to how they did it, and/or a way to protect against it, so that the site can patch that hole. On any given day, attacks happen on their systems and databases. Just find the leaks and weak points, and work with them to cover them up.
Then you have gray caps. Which, as you might guess, fall in between. For instance, a gray cap might hack a friends computer just to intimidate them, while doing no actual damage. Or may hack sites for the challenge. And while doing no harm to the site or others, is still giving them personal satisfaction. So it falls in that shady gray region. Or they might hack into something merely to see if they can, then leave once they do so and do little or no damage other than maybe causing a headache and a good ole laugh.

They may take my rifle when they pry it from my cold, dead, lifeless fingers. Lock and Load.

Yup, that's my drive. Not bragging, not making money, just having fun and excitement (and very important: learning to know people that have the same strange preferences).

Interesting categorization, Veteran, which I generally agree with.

Motivation, however is trickier, and I'd submit that there are not just three categories here, but rather a full spectrum.

I'd suggest that most people here start out with the porn aspect, desiring free porn, then figuring out that this site is more than that. That is just one manifestation of common interests of the people that form this community.

While I enjoy that aspect, the challenge of figuring out the various security devices is far more interesting. And, as noted above, learning how the law applies to all of the activities.

Someone noted jail time above. But internet crimes are notoriously difficult to locate, let alone prosecute, and generally not worth anyone's time, so that aspect is less of a deterrent to me.

For now, I'll remain an amateur cracker; curious, but not overly ambitious.

I never found out how to crack, except for googeling frases like:

"@members.xxxsitesxxx.com/members"

That is how I could get a hold of passes for pornstarclassics etc. If I were to forward passwords collected in this way, would it get me banned?
