Ok, I noticed something about SSF in the last 8 months... - 12-12-2008, 02:45 PM

It started when my 2 years of active status was bumped back down to regular newbie just now....

...which is okay...I get that you want more than just "thanks for the pass" or "thanks for all your hard work", etc. but here's the thing...

I've been a member of this board for about 2 years. Yes, I've been thanking dudes for their work like everyone else, but over time....I see a million new people jumping in and pushing OLD threads back up to the very top over and over again....It's total ass bullshit....numb nuts who thank mindlessly crackers for something that was done last September...

Is there some way to keep noobs from piling on with thanks on old original threads? If this has been answered before, please post the thread. If the trick is just to do a search on newest posts, fine, but that's annoying and time consuming.

I know cracking is long and tedious and takes up enormous amounts of personal time, hell, I used to do it myself...now i'm an old dude and job and family won't allow for the space in time. I'm lucky to get five fucking minutes to myself on a machine these days. (Think about THAT before you get married---unless she's a totally smoking hot piece---then you don't need porn anymore. )

Annoying trend #2: I'm starting to see posts of lists of cracks that are on multiple boards from various non-english speaking origination --like russian and indonesian ones...that "mysteriously" seem to pop up. I think I saw it once or twice here. Anyone noticing that as well?

Just my two cents....You want me to start providing more opinions and input to the board...fine, I'm just getting started. I'm guess I'm getting annoyed. Thanks for letting me vent.

hello **mobil**, we do our best to stop piggybacking and bumping of threads, but we hope good members will help out by reporting them, this also applies to old threads, if we find them, we close them.

My apologies that you got knocked back, but the bot's designed to do that, it's an easier method to catch the lurkers, and long term members who, for whatever reason, should receive a warning PM from the bot in the event they've not been active for several weeks / months.

If you see a thread that you feel is past it's "sell by date" let us know and we'll close it.

No apologies necessary phileditin. Mobil was demoted for poor participation yesterday by me, based on a report from a member here.

Sometimes very old threads still contain working passes. That's why we decided not to close them after a while. I agree there are lurkers replying to them just to make post count. It's quite time consuming to find the members who really only request and reply, so you are always welcome if you find any, to file a report on them. Your own post history up to yesterday is a good reference to see who needs to get reported and who not.

Welcome back and nice to see you participate again. It feels it's the real you and we (I for sure) like that kind of posts. About work and family, I hear ya man. It takes time, a lot of time. Just try to find a better balance between requesting/simple replies and some serious posts/threads like this one.

Keep it up a week or even two maybe and request for active status again. Should be no problem. It's not the quantity of posts here. I prefer to see a few posts per month but fun/interesting/serious/real ones than 50 thank you's to Candy posts.

Cheers and see you around mobil.

I hear you and I get it. I guess maybe it wasn't clear before what constituted real participation. It's not easy writing full-on, op ed pieces, but I can certainly pop in my own short rants of one topic or another.

You know, maybe it's having to get over the initial thought perception that 95% of people logging in aren't really interested in reading posts others than having to do with XXX. But, that's MY problem, not anyone else's.

Truthfully, i hope ssf really returns to the way it was a year or so ago. In recent months, it really became a rugby scrum of all sorts of old expired posts getting bumped as mentioned.

Here's to keeping it real....

You can be sure that I'll read your post. I might be the odd one out, but I really enjoy the discussions and debates that are here. Heck, the things I pay the least amounts of attention to are actually the XXX related ones
Anyways, here's to making SSF a better place for everyone

I guess I've got a similar situation. I've been a member since 2003... used to post passes in my younger days, but now with wife and kids, there is really not much time to do anything. I used to also pay for Gold Forum access, but used it too infrequently to warrant continuing. Isn't there a point where we have "paid our dues"? I got kicked back because I reportedly didn't participate and on one occasion didn't publically acknowledge a filled pass request. For the life of me, I make a distinct effort to PM the person who provided the pass and also locate and thank the poster publically. So, this may have been done YEARS ago and picked up by the bot. In any event, I digress... I have a bit of time to read through posts from time to time and put in my 2-cents - is that enough to get me back to Active Status?

I just noticed, that a one-off $15.95 donation can get you to active member status... does that mean you'll be protected from all these bot-hunts if you pay it?

nope, just means you dont have to wait for the active status request section to promote you

Its basically a way to get you to active quicker, but that doesnt mean the bot isnt after you

I noticed only one pass post in your post history. You indeed failed to thank a few times for a filled request. Although I hear your arguments, I think it is still the least you can do if you get a pass in your pm-box (especially with the knowledge that you have to), to post a reply to the request that got filled before you spend the fun-time with the site you now have access to. That said, considering your history of support for this forum, re-activation in this instance seems reasonable to me. Start an active request thread and add a link to this post in it, and I or another staff member will re-activate your status.

Why don't you just look at this whole thing the way I do.
When I arrive to a new forum, even if I have no way of contributing, I feel weird to just say thank you to other people's threads. I always say thank you for stuff I actually use, but I always try and find my niche wherever since I feel obligated to have even a little content to my posts, and not just thank you notes.

So even if 99% of my posts would be a thank you and I'll have only 1% of something else, I'll be pleased, because I know that I actually like the place I take from more than just for the taking of stuff I need.

And by the way, I'm speaking of places that won't demote you for lack of participation, it's just a feeling I have and I think that is what it should be
