Hello Guys,
It’s a sad day today, the decision was made this morning to close the site...
First of all a huge Thank You, to all the people who have been loyal to and helped leslegs over the 8 years.
There are many reasons for the closure but sadly the main reason is lack of interest it seems that a site that supplies high quality classy pictures isn’t what the people want. ...when that is compared to the cost of running the site we are throwing money down the drain. We also have to spend a small fortune on security or else all of the pictures end up in news groups and on peer to peer sites which then costs us a small fortune in bandwidth costs, which is why we won’t be opening as a free site.
Another problem is members who join once a year or so and then download a whole years worth of updates in one go, this bangs our costs up dramatically and of course they only pay a quarter of the yearly cost,
The real star is the member who joins once and then posts all the pictures on a peer to peer site for the kudos they get. Thanks Pal.
I could rant over the reasons for the demise of the site for hours but hey what good would it do.
....
Best Regards Mike. |

I came across this message somewhere in the Candy forum and it made me think quite some about the fundaments of a forum like ours.
I tend to consider myself a reasonable honest person. Spending quite some time to becoming 'better' as well, whatever that may mean. It's therefore I try to at least have an open mind towards all issues of (my) life, including this forum. Leeching. Stealing. Copying. Having online fun with peers. Following our instincts…whatever you name it.
With the whole public start of music downloading several years ago (I actually visited some Napster parties in SF in those days), I concluded we're 'stealing' bit do so because it's to easy not to, and because we're not really taking something that needs to be replaced, but copying. So although I knew it's still 'stealing' (simply taking something made by others without their permission) I kept doing it. Same here with the porn. Can one be ethical enough to stop online 'surfing for porn' because really the only alternatives would be paying for an account or just to stop? Maybe those site members are losers who can't crack or find passes or posts from peers, but maybe some of them do it cause they feel it's the right thing to do. I know of only one fellow I met at a bible studies many years ago who sincerely didn't download music cause of it feeling wrong for him. [lol] I think he's not downloading adult material either. [/lol]
So reading this message, well, he forgot to mention the biggest star, the crackers who not only rips him/herself (using costly bandwidth), but allow other members to do the same. But at the same time, I (truly) feel that some of these are the best (and only for that matter) online friends I have. And I can see that cracking a hard site is something hard to achieve and so likely resulting in euphoria and feeling a kickass rebel of the law. These are such extremes, I just wonder how that's possible. I think most members here would NOT steal from friends. If our best buddy ran a site, we would not 'break in' and view for free if he didn't want us to. If we did, we'd have to lie to this friend, or face some heated debate with him about why we 'took' something from him, with which he tries to make a living, in spite of him saying not to. Now where lies the difference with people we never met?
Would more 'awareness' of what we do make us stop? Meaning is it ignorance that we copy materials without paying for them? Music, software, games, porn, all the same to me. Or do we deep down really think it's ok. Because if you think about it, we actually DO steal, maybe not from the creators, but in the end from the paying users who end up paying more to compensate for the illegal downloading (streaming costs) and security that needs to be built and maintained… Man, I hate all the keys I always wear and use just to stop assholes (that's how I feel about them) from taking my stuff. My car, bicycle, the house door to my stereo and stuff etc. So am I an asshole like that too? I know that's what that guy thinks of me who closed his site. And well, maybe he's right. What is this so thick but also thin line between having a great time here at the forum and stealing? Ignorance? Awareness? 'Just' life?
I guess a thread like this doesn't belong here and I respect any mod or admin closing it, but I also feel I owe it to myself to consider these issues. So why not with my all-time, best and only real online buddies: you!
Very curious to either what a posted message like above does to you or my whole ranting about it. Am I a whiner, an asshole or simply an unpleasant mirror? Not so curious to the lame replies. I can think of to many myself already…
