Rules Of SS Forum - unclear rules and thinks that need a workover - 10-20-2008, 10:41 PM

Just in case: Rules can be found here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

This is NOT a thread to argue about whether or not a rule is right. This thread aims to find rules that are generally confusing or problematic for members, so that they can be improved for an easier and better understanding.

The problem arose for me several times, when I was going through the rules. I found some that were unclear and whose exact application was unknown to me. Also there where problems about some gray areas that depended on the interpretation of the rules.

I will make the start with the rules that need a work-over and a short reason why:

Posting rules:

9.: Under the current rule set pretty much all of the candy shop, video vault and new password forum would break the rule. There is some need of clarification when it does apply and to what extend it does.

12.: After some explanation I understood this rule to mean no posting of passlists on external hosts, but it could also mean no posting of passwords of non-porn related content. Clarification and (maybe) a split into two separate rules could help.

Requesting rules:

1.: Should be augmented to include active status. This should reduce the number of people speed posting to reach 30 and then wander over to the chatterbox to ask why they still can't request. Actually, the post minimum could be dropped entirely to further reduce confusion.

3.: Should include that gold members can request more than one pass a day.

Other things I'd like to see:

Posting rule 7.: Should be augmented to include speed posting (e.g. members rapidly replying to a score of threads with one liners after reading the title - this often leads to having 15 threads with maybe one post that actually helps the thread)

Ban on linking to an advertisement page, which then redirects to the download (automatically or after user input). Becoming active should be reward enough.

(Credit for this goes to phil) A list of good/bad image/file hosts.

- With posting rules 5 and 6 in place, 4 can be gone I believe…
- I'm not really sure what rule 9 means as well. I thought it was for not mentioning other pass forums here…
- Rule 12 indeed is to stop members from posting passes in e.g. rapidshare packages and so gain rapidshare points.

Requesting rules
- I believe these rules are still a bit in progress and determined. (Did Robot just update this rule? Cause it says you need to be active as well). The 30 posts is for the activation-paying members. 15 euro's a year I believe.
- Gold Member mentioning in rule 3 could be handy yes.

@coroco, posting rule 7 is very hard to execute. It could be that members just check a few candy threads and 'pay respect' by thanking the providers. As staff we (I for sure) check for spam posts while considering upgrading though, meaning contents and also timeframe in which their posts were posted.

I like this thread, too

Would love to see some good (proven) image hosts and upload hosts as well.
That would be a great help for newbies.

Greetz,

I am aware of the problems with rule 7 and the changes I asked for, Arizona. I don't think that you can manage 20 threads in candy shop in an hour, though
Anyways, I just wished that some members could be given a slap for spamming the forum with useless mass-replies. Making the rule a bit "wider" would already be enough to give a tool to mods. Problem with spam is often that it is subjective - what I call spamming may be totally accepted behavior for others and vice versa. So nearly any decisions regarding spam are on a case to case basis anyways.

That's what I mean coro. Some members do a few copy paste jobs from posted work at other forums. Well, it could still be a good contribution for other members here. Agreed though that there are some that annoy me too. Here's a link with an example:

Feel free to report such posts like this one, but make sure they made several of those 3 worded discussion killers within a few minutes as with this member. Seeing his 'recent' participation history, I think he got the picture.

Which reminds me of an improvement: Changing the permanent link so people that display more than the standard number of posts per site can still use them. Anyways, I will keep it in mind.

EDIT: thev, I'll have to hit you with a rubber mallet now
