sugestion: board 'improvements' - 06-06-2003, 04:15 PM

I have a sugestion for you ******.
It's about those redirect pages, ... after we submit new tread, search, etc.

As far as I know, at least for invision board, their only function is to increase bandwith costs. So why won't you just cut it off? It would make life easier, and conveniently reduce bandwith costs.
I know of a 'hack' for invision, but I'm sure you can find one for vbulletin, or have suffient php knowledge.
I may be wrong, though, and there could be another function for these redirects that I'm not aware of, so state your opinion.

Also know of another 'hack' that somehow modifies the url, so that google has trouble spidering the forum (again, for invision). Or maybe I'm just confused, I'll look more into the subject, ... anyway, would that be of any use?

The board itself is very well organized, no problem there.

Duncan

when you do sublit a new thread, what would you like instead of the redirect page??? Because when it redirects, it goes straight to the thread that you posted, where do you want it to direct to insted of that?

"rm -f ie
cp ../../../../mozillafirefox mozillafirefoxrules ."

*Switch To Mozilla Firefox*

you didn't understand what the guy meant ******, but i think i did.
When you post a new thread you get a page that tells you you'll be redirected back to the original thread that you posted or reply that you've posted.

In Invision as i saw aswell, the middle pae isn't being viewed and when you press reply or make a new thread you're redirected right away to your new therad/post without seeing that middle page.

and it is faster i must say

No, what I was saying, is that in my invision board, I just cut of the page saying "You will be redirected", and go straigh to the thread. At least the guy that made the original modification claimed it incresed some traffic. I'll search for this, and post his original words and process... if I could only find it, now where did I put that?...

Duncan

*edit*: yes Un^Real, I've already started replying when you wrote your reply, and yes that's it.

Found some useful, but they are for invision, but maybe you can 'convert' them to vbulletin, or their idea.
Ok, so lets start:
1 - found a mod that would create a button with a "thank you message" - aka thank-o-matic... but then again, maybe it'll attract only more lurkers.
http://mods.ibplanet.com/db/index.php?mod=1092
or
http://mods.ibplanet.com/db/index.php?mod=1089

2- The one I've spoken of: (redirects)
http://mods.ibplanet.com/db/index.php?mod=1023
See his explanation for using this, though I doubt those mathematics.

3- About that google thing... no, I got it the other way around. Acording to this guy, Google doesn't like query strings, and he proposes to make the url more google-friendly...
http://mods.ibplanet.com/db/index.php?mod=775

4- Banning by cookies... It'll only work on lames, though.. but that's what we want right?
http://mods.ibplanet.com/db/?mod=504

5- Awards to best cracker, or something... Maybe they should be given only by mods, supermods, or admins, and invites to gold would be on 9999999 awards given,
http://mods.ibplanet.com/db/?mod=475

I hope this helps somehow to improve the board. I'm sorry the examples are for invision, and I would make them myself for vbulletin, but not such an expert in php.
Number 2 seems useful if you're having bandwith problems.
And Jamis, would that really be an 'improvement'? lol It would just make you hate lurkers more, for not replying...

I'm running an invision board here at work , and indeed : cutting that redirection page saves some bandwith ...

That page doesn't bother me alot in here, but I allways wondered if it had a purpose ... it makes sense to redirect directly to the thread

YOU MUST ALREADY KNOW THAT invision boardS ARE REAL EASY TO MAKE A EXPLOIT FOR IT. WHY BECAUSE ITS A FREE FORUM AND VBULLETIN YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. VBULLETIN TAKES ALOT LONGER TO COMPRESS THE EXPLOIT THUR ITS SERVERS AND INVIS IS EASIER..

ONCE INSIDE THE INVIS FORUM - U CAN REWRITE THE SCRIPT TO PHANTOM MEBERS . VBULL HAS LIMITED OPTIONS TO THEIR SCRIPTS.. I HAVE SEEN THE WAYS IN THUR INVIS. VBULL IS THE CHOICE TO HAVE A MORE SECURE FORUM THAN INVIS
