Good points you made SchoolRumble and Dimsum. I have no problem with Britney Spears. It's just that she really needs to step it up with her singing and dancing. If she can't dance, then she needs to be able to sing at the very least. Her personal life is her business. Don't care how she lives her life. But when it comes to performing, I expect to be entertained.
If she wanted to prove everyone wrong about her singing career, then she should have prepared herself mentally and physically. Her performance was a mess, she looked very slutty, and she was way out of shape. I don't expect her to be the hottest piece of ass on Earth, but I do expect her to be able to hit high and low notes as well as look decent and be physically fit to perform. A person can't perform if he/she is mentally and physically out of shape.
As for MTV, they've been sucking for very long time. They haven't been the same since the 80's and early 90's. All these reality shows is what killed them. Now it's just to manipulate and spread propaganda towards kids and teenagers that if you don't have the looks and latest stuff out right now, then you're a loser. I used to like MTV when they played nothing but videos. I liked VH-1, BET, and MTV when these channels showed nothing else but videos all day long.
People give them fame because they think they're cool. A majority give these artists so much hype that people have no choice but to join the bandwagon. Thing is, a majority of these artists don't have any talent. All the work is being done by their record labels. The studio, the enhanced voices, all these featured artists on songs, and the videos are what make them look appealing to the audience.
The talent is now overlooked, or in this case, the lack of. If that artist is decent at singing and/or rapping, then that's good enough to get him/her a contract.
As for the awards show, like I said, it just goes to show you how bad they've become. An award show should have all the artists and fans sitting down in one big ass room. All the performances should be done there. And if I were at a restaurant, then the way MTV set up the room would have been perfect for dining and being entertained by a singer or two. But this was the MTV VMA Awards.
I don't want to be seated like that. I want to be seated the way I ought to be if I were going to an awards show. So I'm wondering who decided to go with that type of seating. That's an award show, so the seats should have been facing the front, not have round tables with chairs that go around.
As for the awards, I can see why Rihanna won it. But Justin? Justin Timberlake? His latest album wasn't all that great. I actually prefer his first album Justified over FutureSex/LoveSounds.
MTV needs to go back to the way things used to be. Like Justin said, MTV needs to play more videos. Time to get rid of all these reality shows as they have nothing to do with music. Give me nothing but quality music videos and I'm happy.
