What do you think of the new iPod lineup? - 09-09-2007, 08:28 AM

I'm really liking what Apple did with the video iPod (now renamed the "Classic"). The old 30s are being replaced by 80s and the old 80s are being replaced by 160s. Plus, the new video iPods have metal encasings (as opposed to plastic), and the battery life has been doubled.

And they lowered the price of both iPods by 100 bucks. I'm definitely getting the new 80 as soon as the Apple store near me gets it.

Not sure if this is such a great idea by Apple. There's too many products out right now. They should just keep it to a minimum. I think it would be better if it were an iTouch with 40 and 80 gig models, the new iPod Nano with 8 and 16 gig models, and iPod Shuffle wth 2 and 4 gig models.

The colors also need to be changed. Apple must have been smoking crack to have come up with these funky ass colors. I'm seeing "purple," teal, turquois, dark pink, light grey, and like a non-shiny black one. They should just stick with last-gen's colors. Those looked way better.

But I agree with you about the prices. That's nice that they did that so more people can afford to buy an iPod. Just that I think it's better if the Nano and Classic were merged, colors were redone, and for them all to hold more gigs.

I remember when patent filings of the touch-screen by Apple first came out, we were all dead-sure that it was for a new iPod. Then a lot of us felt stupid or "had" that it was the iPhone.

I'm happy because I don't feel so stupid anymore.

My girlfriend wants a new video nano. Her 4th generation iPod has had so many problems. Recently, she read that there's a reset switch inside. We busted it open with a guitar pick. Now it works better. Still, sad iPod haunts us.

I have had a 3G ipod since they came out and think that its my best bit of tech. I still want a new "classic" the thing that I dont get about the new touch, as nice as it is the price $300 for 16G when I can get a 160G classic for the same price? no thanks

Thing is, Apple makes them so tough, it's gonna be a while before i have to replace mine.
I used to own an old mini (the rounded ones with the metal casing) and it took a good drop on solid stone to finally stop working (and it wasn't it's first either...)
My current video 30gig has been working perfectly for almost 2 years now and i can't see it going south any time soon, and one of the new ones is not something i'm getting until it dies.
They have a way to make you fall in love with them, and i'm not replacing it until it'd dead

idk, the battery is too a problem for me, so i might wait a while. iPhone dropped half price so maybe something like that can happen.
