Why is there a Holocaust Museum in America? -
01-22-2008, 04:09 PM
I am really sorry if I offend anyone in here, but the Holocaust happened in Germany, not in America, we are always told about African Americans with slavery and Native American being completely wiped out, the country seems to be more geared to the Jews. I understand it was a great injustice, but why here, we didn't do the Holocaust, We have provided the almost Genocide of the Native Americans, and the Mental and rape and pillage of African Americans, so we need more museums about them not the jews, I do agree that alot of Jews died in the Holocaust, but How many Armenians died to the Turks, What about Rwanda, what about that, we only need to give you American History, the Genocide of the Native Americans, most Jews are just a mix of Italian and Greek Ancesters, most of them are not from the Middle East we see now, If you want to get technical , what happen in the Germany was similiar to the French Revolution, which everybody celebrates about that(the poor against the rich), I do not believe 6 million Jews died, I believe it still was alot, but Hitler killed you if you look different or were mentally challenged , I wonder how many People Stalin killled, I wonder how many Native Americans died(full bloodied, not these so called indians nowadays) I don't hate them they are not race a religion just like being a christian or Muslim, So why are we so acceptable, but very insensitive toward Native Americans and African Americans. Please i would like your input, I am white male, but I have to ask that question.
I feel terrible saying this, but I suppose you may be right. If you think about it, none of the jews (or a ridiculously small amount) were American. And it's not like we build a museum for every kind of world disaster (Darfur museum doesn't exist) so why do we have one for the Holocaust?
the reason is that a lot of jews came here afterwards and they made the effort to get that museum there. i'm sure it would have been a lot harder to get the same museum in germany. what makes me angry is when people try to make you believe that the holocaust was only against jews, that "the holocaust" is the worst thing that happened to people when way more terrible things have been committed by people such as what happened in south america during the spanish conquests and what about cambodia, vietnam, and burma?. yes, it was a terrible thing to happen, but let's not ignore all the other people who have suffered or are suffering now.
I'm sure building Holocaust museums have taken a lot of time and effort on the part of a lot of Jewish people out there, they are probably meant to educate people in the hopes that such horrible things will not happen on a widespread scale again.
With enough effort, I'm sure you could get museums to recognize those other event built as well.
Wow. I'm sort of surprised that you would even need to ask this. If you have the money, you can build whatever kind of museum you want. Obviously, the Jewish American people wanted to build something as a tribute to their lost loved ones.
Quote from the museum's site: Built on land donated by the federal government and funded with more than 200,000 private donations, the Museum is the product of a strong partnership between the government and private philanthropy. As required by law, all funds for planning, constructing and equipping the Museum were raised exclusively from private, tax deductible contributions.
As you can see, this was for the most part a private operation payed for by people who wanted such a monument.

I think that is a great statement, I totally agree, some cultures are still feeling the effects of there trouble in the past, still.
