This is a good thread. Good idea you came up with vettdj. Thank you!! Thank you for posting this flubjub.
As for the reason and the history I came up with The Rock, well, there are many reasons why I chose this as my username.
Aside from The Rock being one of my favorite wrestlers, I needed a good name that was easy to remember. Didn't want a name that was too long to type or too hard to spell. I have another username that I used a lot, but didn't want to overuse it. Plus, I needed a name that got people's attention so if they needed to reply back to me, they can easily find me.
The Rock was also what a lot of people called me back in high school. Mainly during my junior and senior year. I did a lot of trashtalking and was very competitive athletically and academically. Whenever my friends and I competed, either in basketball, football (American), football (or soccer), music, or dancing, they'd talk trash to me and be like "Beat that Rock!!" And because of that, I'd always come back and be like "Just bring it!!"
My friends also noticed I wore sunglasses more than usual and would jokingly say stuff like, "Oh look!! It's The Rock!! If you smelllllllll....what The Rock....is Cookin!!" People would ask me why I always wore sunglasses. And I'd have to tell them that my eyes are very sensitive to the light so I have to wear them.
Kinda like how The Rock started in wrestling. He was like any other wrestler and worked his way up. And if you're a wrestling fan, you'll notice how he wore sunglasses more often than any other wrestler. That and he talked a lot of trash and backed it up. For me, my freshman and sophomore years in high school was working my way up to the top. I was this skinny and average-height kid my first two years. Stood at 5'7" my freshman year and 5'8" during my sophomore year with a fluctuating weight around 110-120 lbs.
During the summer, I went through a lot of training to get into shape. And by the time I went through my junior and senior year, I grew to 6'2-6'3" and weighed around 210-220 lbs. So in a way, I went from a weakling to "a rock." It's just funny how The Rock's best years in the WWF/E and my junior and senior years were in the same time frame, 2001 and 2002.
In fact, as I was training, people noticed the changes I went through and that's when the comparisons were made. Rocky this, Rock that since they knew how much I liked wrestling. It was pretty strange, but funny at the same time. So yeah, it was like a life-changing event for me and something I remember my friends called me. So when I signed up here, I wanted a different username and "The Rock" came into mind.
Lol, quite a history behind the name!!
