Sorry to hear that stoorworm. I know that feeling and it sucks. A bunch of bollox. I remember this one time I bidded on this shirt and was the highest bidder on the last day. However, since I had night classes, I couldn't check up on it. Anyways, when classes ended, I went to the library to log on and found out that I lost the bid for the shirt. It went to some person who bidded a dollar more than I did. I hope you find it at a better price though. And about going after the winning bidder, I hope you don't because it's really not worth it. Usually, there are better deals out there. Just have to wait for it unless you really need it now, then you'll have to bid at whatever the bid is asking for. If this helps, what you can do next time when you're bidding on an item is to bid over the maximum amount. So let's just say if the bid was at 25 pounds, rather than have a bid of 26 pounds, go for something reasonable as 40-50 pounds just to be sure. If you're going to be sitting and waiting as the clock ticks down to zero, you can even outbid yourself and raise it from 50 pounds to 60 or 70. It's what I usually will do because it gives the idea to would-be bidders that the highest bidder is crazy to be willing to pay for it that much so they don't bid. Because even if they do bid, in this case, let's say 27-29 pounds, they're still not above my maximum bid. If they keep bidding but only raising it up to a few more pounds, they'll get the idea that they'll really have to put a bid that may be up in the hundred's or near it to beat my maximum. Yet after the auction ends, I only have to pay a few more pounds or dollars. But like I said, this is only when I'm sitting down as the seconds are winding down. I really wouldn't recommend doing it if you're going to be gone and not be able to come back in time to watch the auction.
Oh yeah, about the postage. I've done my business with ebay and sold some items. The reason why that the prices are slightly, or I should say reasonably higher is for the seller to earn more profit. I know it sucks to have to pay more but what happens is that ebay gets a certain percentage after the auction is over and the payment has been made. Also, whatever the bid started at also affects the percentage ebay charges after the auction is over. So the seller doesn't get all the money and so in order to make more they charge a little bit more for the shipping and handling. However, if the price is ridiculously high, then the buyer can report it to ebay because they're not allowed to charge higher than what is considered to be reasonable. So check up on the prices for shipping and handling by going on the websites of whatever post office they go to.
I hope this helped you out and again, sorry to hear that you didn't win the auction. Just be aware of the prices and the authenticity of the products that are put into ebay. Hope you have a Happy bidding and a Happy New Year!!
