Internet over LAN problem - 07-24-2004, 01:43 AM

Hi;

I have a problem on my home network. I have a network with 2 PC's connected each other with a cross cable (not with a hub or switch) on ethernet cards. Also one of them has an zoom x4 ADSL modem connected at USB port with 128K ADSL connection. Both PCs have XP pro.

I configure all the network setup via Network Wizard of XP and shared the ADSL connection via network. Both machines can access internet and second machine takes a automatic ip over DHCP.

Problem is: The second PC which is taking the internet connection from ADSL connected first PC with sharing is accessing the web too slow. I mean USB modem connected first PC is very speedy over net on browsing or downloading but the second one is slow and has lots of delay. For example when I entered an address to int. explorer and pressed enter the PC waits for a 20 second time and then the network connection lamps are blinking and the page begins to load. Approximately 20 seconds there is nothing on LAN no send no recieve. Also connection is slower than the server machine.

My network cards are configured at 100Mbit Full Duplex speed
There is not a problem at comunication between 2 PCs about file transfer or multiplayer LAN games all of them are perfect working
Only internet is the problem on second PC is slow and delayed.
Internet connection Firewall of XP is turned off

Where is the problem. Can I solve this by giving the manual ip on both PC's TCP/IP connections? Because now PC's configured with network wizard and they take automatic ip on startup. I tried to give a static ip (manual ip) to computers but this time I lost the shared internet connection by this way the machines can see each other and can make file transfer but can not share internet over network why?

Please help me and give an answer I can not make anything over net at my second computer...

Thanks

Ok. lets go over this one by one.
I have 3 computers on my home network with an ADSL connection on one of them (windows XP pro)
I set static IPs on all of them (such as: 194.95.1.1,194.95.1.2 ect...) and set all the subnet masks to 255.255.255.0 - no need for class A or B since you only have 2 machines.

When you set the ICS (Internet Connection Service) your static IPs will be probably reset to a defualt setting given by windows. you just have to remember that and change it back so you can access the internet from that second computer.

There shouldn't be any other problem, and I see no problem for you to use DHCP IP signing aswell, it should work.

about the speed.
The computer i am using to connect to the ADSL (THe so called internet server) have always shown more speed for me quite sagnificantly (and my Network is on 10MBits), although the other computers haven't shown a big delay and they work fine.
NOTE: I'm on 2mbit ADSL

try static IPs and check your settings again after you sign ICS, if you still have a problem, ill try and help you yet again.
