disk drive messed ^ - 07-22-2004, 08:15 PM

Ive posted a few questions like this here and got some good responce and help, cheers for that and ss rocks!

So the problem is my cpu thinks my cd-rw drive is only a cd-rom so therefor i cant burn cds, it has worked before about a month ago. HOW DO I FIX THIS? My cpu is only 2 months old.

I know maybe it was me who fucked it by accident, but i think it may be something to do with a realplayer cdburning addon software updated i downloaded, cuz they dident tell me what was on the update.

cheers

This sounds like it may be a driver problem, go to the manufacturers website and download the drivers for your CD-RW drive and rienstall them, or if you got a CD with the drivers already present, just reinstall from that. If you dont already have nero, you should install that on your system, its the best CD burning tool IMHO.

Yes What ****** Said.
Your CPU Has Nothing To Do With It Its Something With Your Windows Install, Had The Same Problem With WindowsXP Only Thing I Could Do Was A New Install, Nothing Else Worked

My son had this same thing happen on his pc in XP. I ended up having to use the remove hardware function and then let the pc reinstall the rw drive in XP as a plug & play device using the driver cdrom that came with the drive.

Remove the device in both windows and then after removal physically remove it. Reboot the machine, get everything working and then (switch off and) physicall replace the drive and let windows auto detect the new hardware but DO NOT LET IT AUTOMATICALLY CHOOSE THE DRIVERS. Manually install the manufactures drivers off the origional disk or download them.

This WILL work.

It is definitely a driver problem. I would not recommend to use the driver from CD shipped with your CD-RW. It is very likely, that a new driver exists.

Try one of the following:
- Look for the driver at the web-site of the CD-RW manufacturer; or
- www.windowsupdate.com (if you have a registered copy of your Windows OS)

nah, my driver cd does not have a cd-rw driver, it is using the xp driver. Even if i had the driver, it wont let me install a cd-rw driver cuz it thinks it is a cd-rom!!!1

My buddy had a CD burner that just stopped burning one day, after many things (and not wanting to re-install) he found that downloading new firmware fixed the issue and even improved his drives performance.
