Tweety following the trend..... - 01-25-2003, 02:55 AM

Seems as thought this is normal these days but as per Rattlesnake i to am having problems of the PC kind.

This time thought its "Problems of the PC Kind" the special edition directors cut. So if i'm not here for a few days more its cos its,,,,how shall i put this,,,,FUCKING SHAFTED !!! LOL

Firstly i bought a new graphics card and processor which is always a fatal mistake for a PC bulider cos something always goes wrong. Not the fact that it took about 5 hours of online forum reading to even make sure that the processor was supported on my MB.

Turns out that the Athlon XP2000+ 0.18 micon only is supported and not the Athlon XP2000+ 0.13 micron. Or Palamino is and Thoroughbred A or B is not. Well thinking that would be good enough i went out and purchased the correct one.

Trouble is i reccon my Raid Array which nicely mirrors all my data so its safe and sound can't handle the new processor speed. So bye bye data and here i am... The mirror only served to copy the data coruption across both drives. LOL. So whats the fucking point of a Raid 1 mirror???

To use a technical term, ITS PANTS.

Anyhow i'm copying, defragging, checkdiscking, partitioning, formatting, rebuilding and gernerally using gigawatts of power making my data reappear as if by magic (or bloody good luck, i can never remember which it is on PC's)

Anyhow the first thing i did whilst installing the service packs for 2k was to get my ISP back up and running so i could spread my misfortune to you all. As the saying goes,,,"a problem shared is a problem doubled" or is that halved, i think the doubled one is for if you tell the wife.......

Have a good weekend, cos i won't.

Cheers
T

In the tradition of all things that can go wrong, will go wrong. My HDD that i purchased not a month ago is shafted. So it hopefully turns out that it isn't the controller or processor after all. Good job i bought the full retail version and not the OEM (save £6) one. As Maxtor will ship me one within a few days. HA !

Still got the problem that my OS is shafted and i really need to install it again from scratch but that will wait till next weekend. My arse is numb because i have been sitting here for 4 days now with little sleep........my icons keep dissapearing and my file associations are screwed. Even wordpad won't associate itself with text files. This isn't very helpfull considering i need .txt files to crack...

New drive has arrived tonight. 03/02/03 19:00 so i'm gonna be off line for the next two days (at least). I just hope i remember to copy all my bookmarks and Email ( hey Jamis !) and all the other stuff before the final format and reinstall.
See you in a few days. fingers crossed. touch wood. etc etc.

Rest assured i'll be stroking my rabbits foot quite a lot. @Chopin,,,, calm down....she's single.

Its then the long slog of service packs, windows updates, media player patches, codec installs, virus scanner updates. Golly i dread to think how many hours all the patches will take. It was a good deal easier when you had to manually install them as at least i had a copy for just this very event.
