Video file joiner for Win XP?

For some reason Camel's MPEG joiner isn't working under Win XP (even in Win 95 compatibility mode, and yes, I've run vbrun600.exe with the install).
Peck's Power Join for AVI's seems okay.
There are a bunch of shareware options I've not explored.
Any recommendations?

yea virtualdub for avi's is good, tmpgEnc is good for mpeg and converting to vcd's and what not. ASFtools is pretty good for asf and wmv files. Although I've had trouble cutting files that I've downloaded using wmrecorder through asftools.
