Like i said they're garbage, and now i have first hand experience...my brother got a flat the other day and the run-flat tire exploded because he had to take the highway home. What are you supposed to do if you get a flat on the highway? You can't go 40 mph on the highway!

With all the problems that have been reported with them, why do auto manufacturers still put them on cars? I guess, the bottom line is sales.

You can get very small air compressors that you can use to fill up a tire if it's low or flat, which could work depending on how bad the flat is. They aren't that expensive, not everywhere carries them but they're used in off-roading alot.

If it's flat science can win here with a spray can (with something flammable in it) and a lighter. But I wouldn't suggest that unless you knew what you were doing.

I had them on my Corvette and didn't like the way they rode, handled, etc. Not really a fan of run flats.

Given the choice I would always go for a spare rather than runflats, I just feel more confident with being able to change the whole item, I would as a option go for the can of goo rather than runflats too.

Runflats ride harsher, wear quickly and cost 50% more than a regular tire. In case of a flat, they can't be repaired: you have to get a new tire.

Problem is, if you want to swap runflats for regular tires on your brand-new BMW, that's another upfront expense. And there is no dedicated space in the trunk for a spare.

What many BMW owners do is get regular tires only after the OEM runflats have worn out.
