iphone 3g software unlock yet?

hey guys,

a buddy of mine recently purchased an iphone 3G and he was wondering if it was possible to unlock it yet? i know we can jailbreak it but wasn't sure if would unlock it? i see unlocked 3g iphones selling on ebay for so much $$$, which makes me think it must be possible but obviously not easy. if it can't be unlocked yet, how are all these people selling unlocked iphones?

From what's on this site: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] it is not possible at the moment.
I know all the IPhone's in Germany can be unlocked for free, maybe some other country has a similar ruling and the unlocked ones are traded from there.
Anyways, sooner or later someone will find a way to unlock it, until then your friend has to wait.

Seems it'd be cheaper to get the locked 3g phone as paying much higher for the unlocked version washes out signing up for a new contract? Also, I think the 2 year contract cancellation fees were just made illegal, weren't they?

hopefully an easier method to unlocking these newer iphones is released, the data plan is too expensive to dish out the money for....and obviously purchasing an unlocked iphone today would mean sacrificing a lot!! keep us updated
