I would leave it alone on run an external sreen off the monitor point. Using an external Keyboard and mouse will completly get rid of the laptop and mean you don't have to use the laptop with its lid open. I understand that USB an PS2 connections can run both keyboard and mouse simultaniously but i haven't tried it on PS2 but have seen it done with a splitter widget. Ask in a shop.

Its very unlikely that the screen attached to the laptop has any usable cabling inside to allow connection. Also Laptop screens are very tempremental and loosing sections on the screen is very easy to accomplish if you take it apart. Its also hightly unlikely that you caould actually get inside the laptop without all sort of weird and worderfull tools for your specific laptop. Its not just a matter of a few screws (usually anyhow). I once had to bend and file down a tea spoon to get inside a Toshiba. Turns out Tosiba have a special tool for this and it too me hours to make one out of a tea spoon. LOL I got into it in the end.

If i were you i would buy a external TFT and use that off the monitor port. Laptop internals are too bespoke to be messing around with.
