Reasons to quit cracking passes - 12-20-2008, 01:03 AM

One of the threads here got me thinking about personal experience...maybe this is sort of a caveat to others thinking about doin git or who are already knee deep in it. Just more reasons, really, why everyone should endeavor to take the time to not just thank your friendly p/w provider, but to really stop and ruminate on what that fellow or gal is giving up in the way of time and resources or risking...this is only my own experience of course but here goes:

Reasons I had to quit (and probably why I never picked it back up again):

1) Enormous amounts of time dedicated to collecting, maintaining, and on the search for working (and fast enough) anonymous proxies; culling, editing, massaging, and recycling my ever-growing library of u/p combos, arranging them and organizing them by genre.

2) Said enormous amounts of time resulted in loss of time better spent with family, and full-time job/work (almost forgot about that ).

3) I started to see u/p combinations in my sleep. Everytime I'd see something new, or meet someone, I 'd immediately start forming up new u/p's in my head based on whatever it was that was going on (e.g., classiccar:1971Maserati, NewDreSS:57bluesequins, you get the idea) I was losing my mind.

4) Speaking of work, I began to find that the only alone time I could find available to crack was AT work....remember this was around 1999 or so and most home still had dial-up, or at best DSL at maximum..corporate office systems were usually alwasy set up with t1 connex. So, I would start "testing" porn sites with this newfound speed and power....I was so cool.....

5) I loved filling pass requests on boards, like this one...so much I once found myself one day covering several boards at once..what a hero I was...until the day I wasn't using a proxy and one of the board owners did a reverse lookup on my naked ip discovered my company I worked for and started threatening to report me

5) Yep, one day the corporate IT decided to run an audit on all user activity and guess what? Someone's "really been hitting the porn sites...a LOT...." Nevermind that I thought I was performing a public service...all my goldeneye and ares, JTR exploiting, you-name-it, hits and misses were making me look like I had chained myself to my desk and spent 100% of my time surfing porn...24 hrs a day...not to mention one or more of the sites must have complained to the company ISP....Dumbass yours truly got called in to the new head boss and I had to sit there in shamed silence and total embarrassment....couldn't figure out how to explain what "mad skillz" I had developed, so I took the rap for being a massive porn freak and system resource abuser....went on restriction, came within an inch of getting fired....had my PC keylogged, I was monitored from sunup to sundown for a year. What a freaking dumbass.....

Feel free to post your own bustups. I just know that I hope noone ever does the dumb-shit crap I did.

So you better appreciate what these guys do....it's sometimes very serious what they risk for themselves....it's not guaranteed "safe" activity....

god bless....
